Do I Qualify for Debt Review Removal?

Answer a few questions to see which route applies to you — a clearance certificate, a court order, or staying protected for now. It takes two minutes, and nothing is sent anywhere until you choose to contact us.

Question 1

Does your credit report show that you are under debt review?

If you have been declined for credit and told you are 'under debt review', the answer is yes.

What "Qualifying" Really Means

There is no waiting period and no minimum number of payments before you can leave debt review. What matters is where you stand now. If every short-term account on your plan is paid, you qualify for a Section 71 clearance certificate — a bond can still be running. If you still owe money, the question is whether you are still over-indebted.

"Over-indebted" has a specific meaning: your income, after reasonable living costs, cannot cover the instalments on your credit agreements as originally agreed. If it can now — because you earn more, a big account is paid off, or a second income has come back — a magistrate can end your debt review even though money is still owed.

What We Check at Your Assessment

  • Your credit report on all four bureaus, and the status it shows
  • Every account on your plan, and which are settled
  • Whether a court or consent order was granted, and by which court
  • Your income — payslips or bank statements — against your original instalments
  • Your marital regime, if you are married
  • Any garnishee orders or deductions on your salary

When You Should Not Leave Debt Review Yet

Debt review protects you: while it lasts, the credit providers on your plan cannot take legal action to enforce those agreements. Leaving early ends that. If your budget would only just cover your original instalments, one bad month could undo years of progress. In that case we will tell you to stay, and what would need to change before it makes sense to leave.

Common Questions

What does it mean to 'qualify' for debt review removal?+

Either every short-term account on your plan is paid, which qualifies you for a clearance certificate, or you still owe money but are no longer over-indebted, which can qualify you for a court order ending the debt review.

Is this check a final answer?+

No. It tells you which route is likely. The assessment confirms it against your credit report, your plan and your income before you pay anything.

Can I leave debt review if I only just applied?+

If the assessment has not been completed and you are not over-indebted, the application should be rejected rather than continued. If you are already on a plan, the court route applies.

What if I qualify but my spouse does not?+

If you are married in community of property, you are assessed together and leave together. With an antenuptial contract, each of you is assessed separately.
