What is Debt Review Removal?
Debt review removal (also called debt review cancellation or debt review exit) is the legal, NCR-regulated process of removing your debt review flag from South Africa's credit bureaus — Experian, TransUnion, XDS, and Compuscan — once you qualify under the National Credit Act.
Only a registered Debt Counsellor can legally facilitate this process. Debt365 (NCRDC2403) has handled hundreds of successful removals across South Africa.
The Three Legal Removal Routes
Section 71 — Clearance Certificate (Form 19)
Issued when all debts in the review have been settled. The most common and cost-effective route. Your registered debt counsellor issues Form 19 and notifies all credit bureaus.
Section 87 — Court Order to Reject
A magistrate's court application to reject the debt review application — typically used in cases where no court order was ever granted and the consumer's financial situation has improved.
Section 165 — Court Order to Rescind
A court application to rescind the original debt review court order. Required when a rearrangement order was previously granted by the court.
Fraudulent / Unlawful Listing Dispute
If you were placed under debt review without your knowledge or consent, a formal NCR dispute can be lodged. Debt365 handles these cases through the NCR's DHS dispute process.

Documents Required
Note 1: If all debt review accounts are fully paid, only your ID, Power of Attorney, and paid-up letters are required.
Note 2: Outstanding debt means all documents apply including payslip, bank statements, and counsellor forms.
Note 3: Married in community of property — both spouses must apply jointly.
Note 4: Fraudulent listing cases may require an affidavit and NCR Form 29 — Debt365 assists with drafting.
Common Misconceptions vs The Truth
All accounts under debt review must be paid in full before removal
When your financial situation improves sufficiently, you can resume original monthly payments and apply for early debt review removal. The NCA provides legal options for rehabilitation before all accounts are settled.
No debt review court order means no court application is needed
NCR Withdrawal Guidelines clearly state that termination of debt review requires a court application to issue a REJECTION (Section 87) or RESCISSION (Section 165) order — even where no court order was originally granted.
You can continue paying reduced instalments after cancellation
An over-indebtedness assessment is done first. If you cannot afford original instalment amounts, the removal application is unlikely to succeed. Debt365 checks this eligibility at no charge.
Debt review removal is illegal or unethical
It is a fully legal, NCR-regulated process. Section 71 of the NCA specifically provides for clearance certificates. Operating outside the NCA would be the illegal act.
Implications of Cancelling Debt Review
Debt review removal is not always the right decision for everyone at every stage. We give you the complete picture before you commit.
Credit Profile Score Impact
Exiting debt review before clearing all debts can negatively affect your credit score if you subsequently fail to pay original instalments. We advise on timing.
NCR Legal Protection Falls Away
Once cancelled, you lose the legal shield against creditors. If you miss payments post-removal, creditors may proceed with legal action. This is why qualifying assessment is critical.
Debt Repayment Challenges
Outside the restructured plan, original instalment amounts apply. We only recommend removal when you demonstrably afford original amounts.
Right to Access Credit Restored
Post-exit, your right to apply for credit under Section 88 of the NCA is fully restored. You can apply for home loans, vehicle finance, store accounts, and personal loans.
