Debt Review Removal — Durban | KwaZulu-Natal

Durban is the country's busiest port city, and its economy runs on the harbour, the vehicle and component plants in the south, logistics, tourism and a large public sector. eThekwini is served by several magistrate's courts, and which one hears a court-led removal depends on where you live.

Warning

Debt review removal is not an administrative update. A credit bureau may only remove the flag on a Section 71 clearance certificate or a court order. Anyone offering to "remove the flag overnight" without one of those is operating outside the National Credit Act.

eThekwini's courts: Durban, Umlazi, Chatsworth, Pinetown and more

The metro is split between the main Durban court and others serving areas such as Umlazi, Chatsworth, Pinetown and the northern suburbs. A Section 87 application goes to the court for your address; a Section 165 rescission goes back to the court that granted your original order.

We confirm the right court before filing, and our panel attorney appears for you. Court-led removal: from R6,500, typically 2 to 3 months.

Port, logistics and the south Durban plants

Harbour, freight and manufacturing work is often shift-based with overtime and allowances. We show a court your basic pay and your reliable average over several months.

Many Durban households also went under debt review after the 2021 unrest and the 2022 floods cost them work or property. If your income has recovered since, the court route may now be realistic.

Areas we cover across Durban

Everything on this page applies across the metro, including the city centre and Berea, the Bluff and Wentworth, Umlazi, Chatsworth, Phoenix, KwaMashu, Inanda and Durban North. If every short-term account on your plan is paid, a Section 71 clearance certificate removes the flag: from R2,900, typically 14 to 21 working days.

Is this a scam? How to tell a lawful removal

  • Only a Section 71 clearance certificate from a registered debt counsellor, or a court order, can remove a debt review flag. A promise of removal in days without either is not lawful.
  • You should get the exact fee in writing after your assessment and approve it before any work starts.
  • The National Credit Regulator does not process removals over WhatsApp. We use WhatsApp to collect documents and answer questions; the removal itself is a certificate sent to the bureaus or a court order.
  • Check any provider's registration before paying. Ours is NCRDC2403 — search it on www.ncr.org.za.

Frequently Asked Questions in Durban

A Section 71 clearance certificate is typically issued within 14 to 21 working days of a complete document pack. A court-led removal typically takes 2 to 3 months, depending on the court roll.

No. Our only office is in Kempton Park, Gauteng. Durban clients are handled entirely by WhatsApp, phone and email, and our panel attorney deals with the court for you, so you never need to travel.

If your income has recovered and covers your original instalments, yes — a court can end the debt review. If everything is paid off, you need a clearance certificate instead.

A Section 165 rescission is brought in the court that granted the original debt review order, not the court nearest your new home. If your order came from another town's court, that is where our attorney files — you do not need to attend either way. If no order was ever granted, a Section 87 application goes to the court with jurisdiction over where you live now.

Search NCRDC2403 on the National Credit Regulator's website (www.ncr.org.za) under Registrants, then Debt Counsellors. Our only official channels are debt365.co.za, 087 012 6412 and WhatsApp 076 982 2112. Anyone else promising to 'remove' your flag for a fee is not us.
