Debt Review Removal — Johannesburg | Gauteng

Johannesburg is really a dozen towns under one metro, from the inner city and Soweto to Sandton, Randburg, Roodepoort and Midrand. Leaving debt review works the same way in all of them, but which magistrate's court hears a court-led removal does not, and getting that right is the first step.

Warning

Debt review removal is not an administrative update. A credit bureau may only remove the flag on a Section 71 clearance certificate or a court order. Anyone offering to "remove the flag overnight" without one of those is operating outside the National Credit Act.

Johannesburg's magistrate's courts and where your removal is filed

The City of Johannesburg is served by several magistrate's courts, including the main Johannesburg court in the city centre and separate courts in Randburg, Roodepoort, Soweto (Protea), Alexandra and Lenasia. A Section 87 application goes to the court that covers your address; a Section 165 rescission goes back to the court that granted your original order.

We confirm the court from your address and paperwork before anything is filed. You do not need to attend — our panel attorney appears for you.

Inner-city renters and the cost of living in Johannesburg

In Braamfontein, Hillbrow, Yeoville, Marshalltown and the rest of the inner city, rent and transport take a large share of income before any account is paid. Debt review often started when one of those costs jumped. If your income has since caught up, the court route can end debt review without paying everything off first.

That route starts from R6,500 and typically takes 2 to 3 months. If every short-term account is already paid, a Section 71 clearance certificate is quicker and cheaper: from R2,900, typically 14 to 21 working days.

Is this a scam? How to tell a lawful removal

  • Only a Section 71 clearance certificate from a registered debt counsellor, or a court order, can remove a debt review flag. A promise of removal in days without either is not lawful.
  • You should get the exact fee in writing after your assessment and approve it before any work starts.
  • The National Credit Regulator does not process removals over WhatsApp. We use WhatsApp to collect documents and answer questions; the removal itself is a certificate sent to the bureaus or a court order.
  • Check any provider's registration before paying. Ours is NCRDC2403 — search it on www.ncr.org.za.

Frequently Asked Questions in Johannesburg

A Section 71 clearance certificate is typically issued within 14 to 21 working days of a complete document pack. A court-led removal typically takes 2 to 3 months, depending on the court roll.

No. Our panel attorney appears for you. You sign the affidavit; we handle filing, service on your creditors and the hearing.

Our only office is at 9 Spoorlyn Rd, Rhodesfield, Kempton Park, next to Rhodesfield station on the Gautrain airport line from Sandton. Most Johannesburg clients never come in: documents go by WhatsApp (076 982 2112) or email, and our panel attorney deals with the court.

Yes, if your income now covers your original instalments and living costs. A magistrate decides that on the evidence we put before the court.

A Section 165 rescission is brought in the court that granted the original debt review order, not the court nearest your new home. If your order came from another town's court, that is where our attorney files — you do not need to attend either way. If no order was ever granted, a Section 87 application goes to the court with jurisdiction over where you live now.

Search NCRDC2403 on the National Credit Regulator's website (www.ncr.org.za) under Registrants, then Debt Counsellors. Our only official channels are debt365.co.za, 087 012 6412 and WhatsApp 076 982 2112. Anyone else promising to 'remove' your flag for a fee is not us.
